Webinar: Measuring School Turnaround Success

Tuesday, May 3, Measuring School Turnaround Success: What it Takes for a Turnaround: Principal Competencies that Matter for Student Achievement - A Guide to Thoughtfully Identifying & Supporting Turnaround Leaders - Center on School Turnaround Report and Webinar at 2 PM EDT (11 AM PDT)

Successful school turnarounds are hard work and difficult to achieve and sustain. Further complicating the issue is the need for states and districts have a clear, robust definition of turnaround success.

To help address this need, the Center on School Turnaround (CST), in partnership with Public Impact, collaborated on a new report which describes an approach to measure turnaround success that states, districts, and schools can adopt for their own contexts. The authors explain the understanding of turnaround success that undergirds the proposed approach, and detail the analysis conducted to test a critical part of the approach: measuring academic gains. Finally, the authors discuss the implications of their analysis, including the lessons learned, and next steps for the education community in defining turnaround success.  The authors of the report recently presented a webinar for the STLC with guest reflections from the staff of the Illinois State Board of Education. If you missed the live webinar, you can view the archive and related resources on STLC.  Also, a reminer that we invite you to register for the next webinar in the CST/STLC series, focusing on another recently released publication from the CST: What it Takes for a Turnaround: Principal Competencies that Matter for Student Achievement - A Guide to Thoughtfully Identifying & Supporting Turnaround Leaders
