Seizing Opportunity in the Digital Age: Leveraging Professional Development to Protect Student Privacy

Monday, November 16, Seizing Opportunity in the Digital Age: Leveraging Professional Development to Protect Student Privacy -- a NCTET event

In this installment of the Seizing Opportunity in the Digital Age Congressional luncheon briefing series, the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training (NCTET), the non-partisan organization examining and supporting the use of technology to improve education and training in America, will explore the critical role professional development for educators can play in protecting student privacy.

As Congress considers rewriting the 40-year old Federal Educational Records Privacy Act (FERPA) and other measures to further protect student privacy, the need to provide educators appropriate professional development on this topic is more important than ever. Through a variety of first-hand perspectives from both educators in the field and leading advocates, this briefing for lawmakers, Congressional staff, and other policymakers will:
--Examine the need for educators to receive professional development focused on protecting student data
-- Share best practices and potentially replicable models of school systems providing educators professional development supporting the protection of student privacy
-- Showcase resources from leading non-profit organizations available to school systems to support their efforts to protect student privacy and data
