Report Briefing and Panel Discussion: Developing Excellent School Principals to Advance Teaching and Learning

Tuesday, November 3, Developing Excellent School Principals to Advance Teaching and Learning: Considerations for State Policy -- a Congressional Briefing  hosted by the Wallace Foundation

"All organizations need effective leaders to succeed, and schools are no exception," writes Paul Manna. Research confirms that schools cannot succeed without principals capable of improving schools - and getting results for students.

But how can state policymakers ensure that every school gets an outstanding principal? What role does federal policy play?

Please join us for a briefing on a new report, Developing Excellent School Principals to Advance Teaching and Learning: Considerations for State Policy. Author Paul Manna identifies three areas available to state leaders to help principals be well trained and supported on the job: setting policy agendas, suggesting key policy levers, and considering state and local contexts that affect practice.
Panelists will respond to the report's findings on what states can do - and possible ways that federal policy can support these actions - in their crucial role of strengthening principals.
